Japanese Tea Culture

茶の湯

Japan has been drinking tea for more than 1,500 years. The art of tea, also known as Sado/Chado is a deeply ingrained tradition involving the preparation and drinking of tea in ceremony. Make the lifestyle choice to Japanese tea, encompassing health, well-being and a sense of mindfulness.

Tea plantations located in Japan go back to the 12th century which at the time were made by Buddhist monks. Interestingly, it was here that Matcha, a form of green tea, was the preferred choice to aid meditation and mental focus.

With Japanese tea becoming a more popular choice of beverage in many parts of the world, we stock the most popular and in demand teas such as Matcha, Hojicha, and Genmaicha

Our Carefully Selected Range Of Japanese Teas

Japanese tea originates from the leaves of the Camellia Sinensis plant. The most popular types of Japanese tea encompass a wide range of green teas including leaf and powder forms. Green tea is made by steaming the fresh leaves, preserving the natural nutrients and enzymes within. We stock a range of premium tea from Shizuoka, Mt Fuji, in leaf form from Sencha, Genmaicha and Hojicha.

If you're looking to try one out for yourself, all of our Japanese teas are available to enjoy at our Cafe in Camberwell, made by our expert baristas.

Matcha

Matcha is our best, most popular tea. We source the finest, premium and organic Matcha, ensuring its rich antioxidants, nutrients, vitamins and calming effects are intact and pure. Enjoy a state of calmness, increased energy and focus, without the anxiety associated with coffee. Our Haiku Matcha is the perfect compliment to start your day.

Hojicha

Hojicha, otherwise known as roasted tea, is made by roasting Japanese green tea leaves over charcoal or gas heat until they turn brown and brittle. The roasted leaves are enjoyed as is or ground into a powder which can then be used in a variety of drinks and desserts. We provide both leaf and powder form here at Haiku.

Hojicha is light and produces an earthy taste making it the perfect choice for those who would like something other than the sharpness of other green teas.

Genmaicha

Genmaicha is another popular alternative, combining green tea leaves with roasted brown rice, creating a warm, toasty flavour, not unlike popcorn.

Enjoy a nutty, slightly sweet and milder version of Matcha, for another great addition to a Japanese tea collection.

We stock both leaf and powder form here at Haiku Future.
